OUR MAIN AREAS OF LEARNING

Our curriculum focuses on the three prime areas of children’s development at this early age

Communication & Language – We provide children opportunities to communicate, learn language skills and extend their vocabulary. This is done by having conversations, reading to the children, playing games that involves communication and role playing - to mention some of the fun ways we work to enhance this prime development area.

Physical Development – During the early years of life, children's physical growth is rapid and continuous, and it affects all aspects of their development. We encourage the children to engage in physical activities that supports their physical development, such as crawling, climbing, and playing with balls and other toys, we have our regular sports session and our physical activity areas in the rooms to offer plenty of opportunities to the children to develop this area of their learning.

Personal Social and Emotional Development (PSED) refers to the development progress of children's social interactions, emotional awareness, self-regulation, and self-identity. Children learn to identify their strengths, limitations, and emotions, as well as to develop a sense of autonomy and independence. We support children in managing their feelings effectively and our Team offer a safe and comforting environment for the children to mature in this prime area of their education.

Literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts & design are further specific areas of educational focus as per the EYFS framework

  • For literacy, our goals are to create comprehension, word reading and writing

  • Mathematics will focus on numbers and numerical patterns in a playful and fun approach

  • When understanding the world, we look at past and present; people, culture and communities; the natural world

  • Expressive arts design work will entail play where we create with materials, we are creative, imaginative and expressive

EXTRA-CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

At Happy Niños we put great emphasis on learning through fun and play not only during structured activities but also during our free play, child led and the extra-curricular activities which we offer free of charge as part of the nursery day.

Daily Outings

We go on daily outings into our local community supporting cultural capital. We go to the library at least once a week to choose our 'book of the week', we go to our local shops to choose oursnacks, we go to the local parks wherewe explore in the environments.

Dance & Music

In our daily music sessions we sing our core rhymes, dance and use musical instruments to make differentsounds. We discuss whatsounds each instrumentmakes and how they differ in sound.

Spanish

Spanish classes are altered to each child at Happy Niños:

• Spanish singing classes for our babies where we learn songs in Spanish and use musical instruments to make for a fun take on music class, using repetition to develop communication in multiple languages.

• Learning based approach for our older children by using flash cards and communicating the words in both Spanish and English developing language in both and of course we also sing!

Our nursery rooms are named in both English and Spanish our Jellyfish room is Medusa, our little Turtles is Pequeño and Seahorse is Chaballo de Mar. At Happy Niños we do not high five we Choca Cinco!

Sports & Yoga

We do sports classes once a week with a range of different activities (weather permitting we go to our local park), this is a great way to develop gross motorskills by kicking balls in football, catching in our bean bag toss, sing hoops as obstacle courses and much more.

We adopt a Key Person approach from the very beginning to allow each child to build a strong relationship with an adult in the nursery to support their well-being and make them feel comfortable and free to grow. It is very important that parents and carers share information about their child with their Key Person to facilitate this approach and to enable the Key Person to coordinate your child’s care and education. Having a Key Person also ensures that each child’s achievements are shared with parents on a regular basis.
